His debut album, "Dawn" (2016), was a sublime study in devotional songwriting, where the artist seemed to both revere and have a handle on his elemental emotions. With his second album, Ry X stays true to his vision: between rippling beats, gentle guitars, balanced piano and sophisticated vocals, "Unfurl" does what the title suggests. It evolves organically from Ry's previous work, blossoming in delicate new directions while holding fast to its roots. "I think my mission statement was just to stay vulnerable and capture that in this album," Ry says. "Inspirations change every time, and I want to free that process, try new ideas, sounds and instruments. But what's always important to me is to keep a sense of rawness and honesty in the work."
